About the PCR
Like most of you, I've been a car fanatic for as long as I can remember. The reason I started the tag and registry was to create a mechanism for "car guys" (like me) to be able to memorialize the facts about their cars as well as create a National database of as many of these "iron warriors" as possible. Through the VIN plate and decoding, we all know how our machines first rolled off the assembly line. However there has not been a "manufacturer-like" way of documenting/displaying the rarity of features or the performance upgrades performed since.
Blake's Performance Car Registry (PCR) and Tag was a way I thought that information could be captured without disturbing the legitimacy of the car's pedigree or originality.
We do not authenticate vehicles, all data is car owner provided, based upon their assertions of the vehicle's history or modifications they've made. There are plenty of good experts, specializing by respective brands in our hobby that can help you with that and I certainly recommend you take advantage of their services/expertise. The PCR is about capturing what makes your car "special" to you in a highly professional manner that you can be proud of and fellow enthusiasts can enjoy.
How it started for me
We all have memories and stories of the cars that influenced our passion for the hobby. For me there were several key moments that I believe created my "car addiction".
Believe it or not, it started with my parents' 1966 slant six Dodge Dart station wagon! We drove that thing all over the place with 5 kids and two adults, U-haul strapped to it for vacations, most 9 hour trips. It never let us down and I clearly recall marveling at the mechanical elements involved as my father explained rpms to me as I leaned over the back of his seat watching him drive. 1,500-2,000 rpms for 9 hours straight with nothing going astray, just boggled my mind.
Fast forward to my "little league" years and by happenstance, my best friend's older brother took us to baseball practice in his 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible. This was my introduction to performance machines! Not your typical Firebird, it sported a 421 from a Catalina 2+2, headers, sidepipes, 4 speed and M50 tires in the rear and L60s in the front! He had even removed the fender wells to accommodate the "meats" up front. I thought it was the coolest car possible. I would buy it today in a heartbeat!
Years later as I approached my learner's permit, an "older" high school guy in our neighborhood had a 1969 Z-28, 302, 4 speed, orange with the white stripes. I watched him swap cams in his driveway and drooled over it daily as he drove by me as I waited for the bus for school, pipes crackling as he wound out the gears.
Finally, I bought my first car, from my older brother, a 1969 383 4 speed, Road Runner, a car I still own today. From then on, turning wrenches, street racing, bracket racing, and acquiring muscle machines of all stripes became a visceral part of me.
No doubt your personal story is similar, different moments, different cars, but the same passion. That's why we meet here.
